About the new Maersk air freight facility
The new facility is due to open and be fully operational from October 2023. It’s based just outside of Manchester airport, in an area that has great connections with all major networks, not just within the North of England, but also the Midlands, Scotland, and Ireland.
So, why’s that important? Well, it’s an exciting area of investment for Maersk.
For one thing, some of Maersk’s core carriers are based out of Manchester Airport itself. Plus, the 41,000 square foot hub will allow them to offer an enhanced service to their customers based in and around the North.
The benefits for local customers
It’s an exciting time for the world’s largest shipping company.
The idea behind the investment is to drive speed to market for clients within the North. This will be facilitated by quicker processing times for both inbound and outbound shipments.
But that’s not all! The Manchester hub also has the advantage of being a bonded facility. So, bonded cargo can be received directly into the facility, and customs processes carried out within shorter timeframes.
A facility for the future
This investment was made with an eye to the future.
As part of Maersk’s expansive sustainability plans, which include emissions reduction initiatives, responsible business practices, and customer collaborations, the facility has been built in line with key sustainability goals.
EV forklifts and sustainable material handling equipment will be in use within the facility itself. Beyond, collections and deliveries between the hub and the airport will also be run on electric vehicles, to keep emissions to an absolute minimum.
